What private hire actually means here

When you hire a boat privately with us, nobody else comes aboard. The boat, the deck and the skipper’s attention are yours for the time you book. You are not following a fixed loop with thirty strangers: you tell the skipper what sort of day you want, and the route is shaped around that — a long swim in a quiet cove, a slow cruise under the cliffs, or a bit of both.

We have two boats for private hire. The Malu V is our everyday charter boat, booked by the hour for anything from a short outing to most of a day. The LYA is a larger, more comfortable yacht, hired by the hour for celebrations or simply for more space on board. Both go out with a skipper, always.

No licence needed — and why we do not rent self-drive boats

A lot of people search for “boat rental Gran Canaria no licence” expecting to take a small boat out on their own. We want to be upfront: we do not rent licence-free, self-drive boats. What we offer is the other way round. You do not need a licence because every charter comes with a local skipper who handles the boat, the anchoring and the navigation.

For most groups this turns out to be the better deal. You get to enjoy the day instead of worrying about ropes, rocks or the wind picking up. Your skipper knows where the water is clearest, where you can anchor for a swim, and when to head back before the afternoon breeze builds. You still decide what you want to do; you just do not have to drive.

Planning your charter

Start with the length. A short charter is enough for a cruise along the coast and a swim; a longer one lets you push further west towards the beaches beyond the end of the road, such as Veneguera and El Perchel, and stay longer wherever you like. The durations on sale, and the times you can start, are shown when you book.

Then think about the group. Tell us roughly how many people are coming, whether there are children or anyone nervous on the water, and what the occasion is. It helps your skipper plan the day, and it lets us tell you honestly if the other boat would suit you better.

• Bring swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a hat.
• Bring your own snacks if you want them, and let us know if you are planning a cake or a toast.
• Wear soft-soled shoes that you do not mind getting wet.
• Arrive at the marina in good time: we confirm the meeting time when you book.

Who books private charters

Families who want the children to swim off the back of the boat without a crowd watching. Couples marking an anniversary. Groups of friends on a birthday, a hen do or a stag do. Colleagues on a team day. And, quite often, people who have already done a shared trip and want to come back to the same coast on their own terms.

Whatever brings you, the one thing we will never compromise on is the sea. Your skipper decides whether it is safe to go out and where it is sensible to go. If swell, wind or calima make the day unsafe or unpleasant, we will move your charter rather than send you out regardless.

If you are unsure how long to book, tell us what you want from the day. A shorter charter suits a first taste of the coast or an outing with young children; a longer one is better if the whole point is to reach the quieter coves in the west and linger there.
